New Work - Bangles.
A bangle is a rigid ornamental band worn around the arm, and its lineage stretches back thousands of years. Evidence of bangles dates to at least 2500 BC, as seen in the small bronze lost-wax cast of a figure known as the Dancing Girl from the Indus Valley city of Mohenjo-daro.
Across cultures, bangles hold varied meanings. They often mark important life stages and embody beliefs around protection, identity, and wealth. These associations continue today. A bangle gifted in childhood may be worn throughout a person’s life, becoming a marker of family, memory, and personal passage. Bangles also create sound when worn together, adding a sensory element that deepens their presence and significance.
These bangles were created to honour this long, almost magical history of wear and meaning. Each rotation reveals something new to discover, and their surfaces invite touch through rich texture. Two types are presented here: one features a twisted form, adding a sense of movement as it wraps around the arm; the other begins with an exaggerated oval bar—similar to a ring top—expanded in scale to become a bangle.
There is one of each of these bangles. Earrings and rings based on the same concept have also been created and will be released over the coming week.
