At this time of year, early Christmas sales are everywhere, but this is a difficult model for small studios to follow. I will no longer be offering sales on my work.
Each piece I make is designed and handmade by me. Nothing is produced in multiples or manufactured by an external studio. Every work is individually considered, crafted with intention, and created using techniques I’ve honed over thirty years. When a piece finds its home, I may create something similar to replace it, or I may design an entirely new, unique work.
The foundation of my studio practice is authenticity and a celebration of true hand-making, by this, I mean work made quite literally by my own hands. This commitment to uniqueness forms a quiet conversation between each piece and the person who ultimately lives with it.
At its heart, the model I work with is bespoke.
Materials are precious and finite. Working within a low-production model allows me to honour this, using each material thoughtfully and with intention. This approach is labour-intensive and relies on precious resources, which means my work will always cost more than machine-made or mass-produced pieces.
In a time of economic uncertainty, this model can be challenging to sustain. For that reason, I won’t be participating in Black Friday sales. My practice is built on respect, for materials, for process, and for the value of truly handmade work.
For small businesses like mine to survive, we rely on people choosing to support handmade work and the makers behind it.
